"Geneva Convention!"
Saturday, January 29 / 9:30 A.M. - 12:30 P.M.
American Red Cross
2707 State Street Santa Barbara, CA 93105

The 1864 Geneva Convention laid the foundations for the contemporary humanitarian law. Its major themes include: standing written rules of universal scope to protect the victims of conflicts; its multilateral nature, open to all States; the obligation to extend care without discrimination to wounded and sick military personnel; respect for and marking of medical personnel, transports and equipment using an emblem (red cross on a white background). The First Geneva Convention, signed in 1864, was the first treaty of international humanitarian law.
Our Annual Meeting will include a panel discussion on the Geneva Convention, and we will also introduce our 2005 Essay Contest Winners and award their prizes and certificates. Don’t miss the opportunity to meet them!

Panelist Speakers:
   * Eskandari-Qajar is Chair and Professor of Political Science at Santa Barbara City College.
   * McCurdy is the current Chairman of the Disaster Service Committee of Santa Barbara County and a member of the Red Cross International Services Committee.
   * Russell is a Job Director for a Disaster Action Team, Volunteer Disaster Services instructor, and an International Services Committee member.
